The U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS), part of the Research and Innovative Technology Administration, has released figures reporting 3.6 percent more commercial trucks crossings into the United States from Canada and Mexico in 2012 than in 2011.
The figures, from BTS’s 2012 Border Crossing/Entry Data, show that 10.7 million commercial trucks crossed U.S. borders in 2012. The increase follows a1.7-percent rise a year ago, compared to 2010.
The BTS saw a four-year-long decline in commercial truck crossings from 2005 to 2009.
