TxDOT makes significant changes to road maintenance transfer plan

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) announced this week that it has decided to make changes to its proposal that would have transfered maintenance of nearly 1,900 miles of state highways to 59 cities.
According to WacoTrib.com, the agency is making the controversial turnback program voluntary. It plans to offer financial incentives to cities that will undertake maintenance of specific “farm-to-market” roads.
Cities that join the program will have the state make initial repairs, then will receive state funding to maintain the roads for a year.
TxDOT chief engineer John Barton said the state’s savings would be used toward building and expanding urban roads.
