Five hundred traffic signals to be InSync

LENEXA, KAN —If you’ve ever resented a red traffic light and wished someone could synchronize the signals, help may be coming to an intersection near you. Traffic technology company Rhythm Engineering is in the process of outfitting its 500th intersection with the InSync real-time adaptive traffic control system. The InSync system gives traffic signals artificial intelligence to adapt to traffic demand moment by moment, helping to prevent traffic jams and accidents, cutting drivers’ travel time up to 50 percent, and reducing vehicles’ fuel use and emissions by 20-30 percent.
Rhythm Engineering hit the 500-intersection milestone in just a few years by partnering with transportation leaders in 13 states from California to New York. The company’s success evidences a growing trend among state and local governments to choose solutions that maximize existing capacity, save taxpayer dollars and protect the environment.
“Getting 500 intersections ‘InSync’ means that more than 1 million drivers in the United States are getting to their destinations faster and more safely,” said Dr. Reggie Chandra, CEO of Rhythm Engineering and traffic engineer. “Each intersection upgraded with this technology transforms people’s lives in meaningful ways. InSync’s smart traffic signals give people more time with their loved ones, more money for things other than fuel, and most importantly, safer, longer lives due to the decrease in car crashes.”
Chandra founded Rhythm Engineering in 2005 as a public traffic engineer frustrated with the lack of intelligent tools to solve traffic congestion. Independent studies show the company’s breakthrough solution, InSync, can reduce the number of times drivers have to stop at red lights on busy roads by as much as 90 percent. The solution also improves fuel efficiency, decreases travel times and reduces crashes.
This summer, Inc. Magazine ranked Rhythm Engineering 64 on its annual list of the 500 fastest growing private companies in the U.S., and Ingram’s magazine named it the fastest growing company in the greater Kansas City area.
