The impact-activated safety device helps prevent crashes in work zones by warning work crews and errant drivers simultaneously. The SonoBlaster Mobility Kit, an add-on accessory for the SonoBlaster that converts it into a free-standing protection unit, allows the intrusion alarm to be used independent of cones, barrels or barricades. It can be attached to the SonoBlaster in minutes, according to Transpo. A 2010 recipient of Better Roads Top RollOuts award, the SonoBlaster’s built-in CO2 powered horn, upon impact, blasts at 125 dB signaling workers that the protective zone has been violated, giving them critical reaction time to move out of harm’s way.

Just like with Impact Recovery Systems’ other pedestrian safety signs, the Ped-in-a-Bag supplies enhanced conspicuity at crosswalks- in accordance with the MUTCD, in order to alert motorists to local laws concerning yielding to, or stopping for pedestrians in crosswalks. The effectiveness of this unit has been repeatedly supported by independent testing to demonstrate distinct changes in motorist behavior and accident incidence following installation.

This sign’s lightweight design (26 lbs- sign and base), and quick release system-that allows the sign to be removed from the base in less than five seconds, makes this unit Ideal for use in school zones, in order to provide additional protection of the crosswalks frequented by children. This sign is easily transported via the included carrying bag. Ped-in-a-Bag™ also comes standard with Impact Recovery Systems’ patented, anti-twist reactive spring system that is designed to return the unit to its original position after impact.

Which is why, says David Wasserstrom, president of Trident Security Devices (http://www.tridentdevices.com/) and the U.S. distributor of the Israeli-manufactured bollard, Moscow chose this High Security Bollard to protect the Kremlin perimeter.

The TSD Security Bollard was successfully tested (Oct 2010) at Calspan Transportation Sciences Center, and is in compliance with the new ATSM Standard as a L3/K12 Retractable Security Bollard, without exception or limitation.

However, to meet the strict Russian requirements, the Security Bollard was subjected to special demolition and crash tests conducted by the Russian Army under the close supervision of Kremlin Security Officers.

The major crash tests required the Security Bollard to successfully prevent penetration by a 6.8 ton (15,000 lbs) vehicle crashed at 65 kph (40 mph) Impact Resistance for the K8 Model, and at 80 kph (50 mph) Impact Resistance for the K12 model.

In competition with bollards from several other nations, the TSD K12 High Security Bollard was approved and chosen for the full protection of the Kremlin Compound.

TSD Security Bollards have a unique operating system. When multiple bollards are installed in a line, each individual bollard can be operated separately, as opposed to the existing method of one (1) drive unit for the entire bollard line. In addition, any combination of bollards in a multiple row of bollards can be programmed to operate as separate units.

The TSD Security Bollards, manufactured in Israel, are controlled by the Israeli Trade Act (1985) and are to be evaluated and considered made in the United States, with certain limited exceptions, under the Buy American Act of 1933 and in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

Trident Security Devices, Incorporated (TSDI) is a manufacturer and distributor of an extensive line of safety and security products that meet the needs and requirements of government, the military and private industry.

Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Approved Noise Barrier System For Bridges and Highway Overpasses

Evonik Cyro LLC announces the application of the PARAGLAS SOUNDSTOP TL4 System as part of highway projects in Florida, California, British Columbia, Ohio, Tennessee, and New Jersey. The lightweight, crash safe noise barrier system has been successfully tested under NCHRP 350 Level 4 conditions which include two crash tests involving an 8,000-kg single unit truck impacting at 80 km/hr and 15 degrees and a 200 KG pickup truck impacting at 100 km/hr.

Evonik Cyro’s TL4 system incorporates transparent PARAGLAS SOUNDSTOP GS CC noise barrier sheet, which features its unique fragment retention feature, meets the international EN1794 standard regarding noise barriers. If subjected to an impact at high enough energy where breakage occurs, large fragments are retained thus preventing any potential secondary damage from falling debris. In many countries around the world GS CC is the only product approved for use on bridges.

The SOUNDSTOP TL4 System weighs as little as 25 pounds per square foot compared to other TL4 compliant noise barrier walls, typically made from reinforced concrete, weighing 1200 pounds per linear foot. “This light weight could dramatically reduce the cost of bridge construction by eliminating one or more load bearing girders needed to support the heavier concrete wall,” according to Charles Boyd, structures engineer with the Florida Department of Transportation.

“The SOUNDSTOP TL4 System offers the impact resistance and safety necessary for elevated roadways, while providing unobstructed views to maintain natural aesthetics and light transmission,” comments Nate Binette, market manager, Noise Protection Products, Evonik Cyro LLC.

Dr. Ron Faller of the Midwest Roadside Safety Facility provided engineering services for the development and design of the TL 4 System. The Midwest Roadside Safety Facility is the FHWA certified laboratory that conducted the crash test. “In addition to the prevention of falling debris, this system acts to prevent vehicle snagging and occupant compartment intrusions which are also requirements of the TL-4 impact standards for attachments to existing roadside safety features. We actually observed that the TL4 System contributed to vehicle stability during the test” stated Faller.

Used throughout Europe for more than 30 years, SOUNDSTOP sheet was introduced in North America in 2002 and has since garnered significant success with scores of installations in more than 18 states. SOUNDSTOP GS CC sheet maintains visibility for landscapes while still providing noise reduction for the surrounding area.

The TL4 system, as well as other affordable lightweight systems offered by Evonik Cyro, provides an attractive solution for bridges requiring noise abatement while also minimizing dead load.

PARAGLAS SOUNDSTOP panels offer very low life cycle costs. Due in part to the hard, smooth surface the panels have little to no maintenance costs. he panels remain clean through exposure to rain and facilitate graffiti removal using a simple spray-on solution and pressure wash. The sheet is extremely resistant to the elements, with excellent UV light stability and light transmission, and will not yellow over time like polycarbonate and other materials.

Panels are available in transparent or translucent clear, and various color shades including Midnight Blue, Steel Blue, Sky Blue, Forest Green, Sea Green, Spring Green, and Smoky Brown.

ST. CHARLES, ILL. – April 2011 – Work Area Protection now offers the ArrowMaster Pro-Line Solar-Assisted Advance Warner, a versatile, low-operating-cost arrow board that provides maximum visibility while directing traffic through construction zones.

The ArrowMaster Pro-Line arrow board features several design changes for improved functionality. It was designed with a mast to provide lower center of gravity for additional stability during travel. The design allows the panel to travel parallel with the towing vehicle which minimizes wind resistance, fatigue and maximizes fuel economy. The center frame support is continuous from front to rear to reduce stress fractures caused by towing and rough roads. The ArrowMaster boards conform to and, in most cases, exceed all federal and state MUTCD specifications.

The ArrowMaster system is powered by a 210-amp marine, deep-cycle battery storage bank that charges by a top-mounted, shadow-free solar panel. The solar panel is positioned for maximum charging capabilities in both the operating and travel modes.

The ArrowMaster battery can last up to 30 days of continuous operation without a solar charge. The ArrowMaster V hi-tech, solid-state controller incorporates an automatic intensity control that keeps the lamps bright, even under low battery conditions and the Auto-Trac provides an automatic, full-time tracking system that adjusts the lamp intensity to the ambient light conditions. The easy-access design allows the user to reach the batteries, controller and battery charger in a lockable steel enclosure.

The board is available with either 15 or 25 fully sealed LED lights with high-impact plastic hoods in both arrow standard and wide-angle models. The 5-inch, amber, PAR 46, LED lamp is a sophisticated, high-output, low-power consumption lamp with a greater life expectancy than other arrow board lamps. The solid-state controller is equipped with a durable rotary switch, full-mode configuration and LED display. The board features a removable tongue for safety and security.

The message center provides various display modes such as left and right arrows, double arrows, sequencing arrows and chevrons that are programmed and stored in the controller minimizing set-up time.

The full-sized 48-inch by 96-inch, all aluminum construction sign panel is sealed to protect against the elements. The sign’s frame measures 2 inches by 3 inches by 0.12 inches and comes with a 2-inch ball standard hitch. It is manufactured of high-grade steel with a durable, powder-coat paint finish. The mast is 3-inch by 3-inch by 3/16-inch steel tube assembly.

Each board is available with or without a battery charger and the lamp is backed by a five-year warranty.

Founded in 1969, Work Area Protection is a manufacturer of temporary traffic control equipment such as vehicle-mounted arrow board panels, traffic cones, drums and attenuators for the highway construction and utility markets. Work Area Protection is a subsidiary of New Enterprise Stone and Lime Company, Inc.
