A Disruptive Innovation

| December 13, 2012

BIM is going be increasingly  influential in transportation infrastructure planning and building. Yes, its an opinion, but this stuff has power that it hasn’t even unleashed yet.

Building Industry Modeling is advancing, technologically, so fast that it allows agencies and companies in transportation infrastructure to look at projects, and predict projects, in new ways. It is one of those tools that soon we’ll wonder how we lived without it. Anything that adds a raft of valuable ways to ‘see’ and plan transportation infrastructure work with this much sophistication is a potential game changer,

In this Building Design + Construction magazine article, John Tobin says that BIM is now so highly developed it “creates a virtual digital building.” And, he argues, “the growth of BIM is heralding a true disruption in the construction industry. It is transforming markets, and revolutionizing expectations.” It is he says, enthusiastically, a “disruptive innovation.”

Incidentally, the image I used here is the cover of Chuck Eastman’s BIM Handbook.
