Brokk AB introduced the Brokk 100 Demolition Machine during a press conference at the World of Concrete 2012 in Las Vegas.

Featuring a more compact design, yet 35-percent greater breaking power, the all-new Brokk 100 replaces the Brokk 90 machine. A new digital remote-control box allows the operator to stay clear of any hazards on the jobsite, and monitor some of the key functions of the machine on an LCD display. The manufacturer says the new machine is the first in the industry to deliver the flexibility of true 360-degree working performance, without compromising stability, productivity or reliability.

Case Construction Equipment crowned the champion of its Triple Threat Rodeo series on Jan. 24 during the World of Concrete 2012 in Las Vegas, following a day-long competition among 59 of the United States and Canada’s most talented equipment operators at the 2012 World of Concrete show in Las Vegas. Case awarded prizes with a total value of nearly $140,000 at the end of the competition.

Octavio Miranda, of Ancaster, Ontario, was named the Case Triple Threat Rodeo North American Champion and won a 2012 Ram 2500 truck for himself and a new Case TR270 compact track loader and a Towmaster trailer for his sponsoring company, L.M. Enterprises.

Owner/operator Allan Long, of Summerhill, Pa., finished second to win a $5,000 Case-New Holland (CNH) Capital rewards card.

Lloyd Lesher of Casper, Wyo., finished in third place, winning $1,250 in cash for himself and a $2,500 CNH Capital Card for his sponsoring company, Andreehunt Construction. The CNH Capital Cards are redeemable for products and services at any North American Case Construction Equipment dealer. First-, second- and third-place finishers also received custom belt buckles recognizing their performance.

Habitat for Humanity affiliates across North America also benefitted from the Triple Threat Rodeo program. Case presented a corporate contribution of $5,000 to Habitat for Humanity Las Vegas at the championship event, one year after kicking off the Triple Threat Rodeo program with an identical US$5,000 donation. In addition, each participating Case dealership made a donation to its local Habitat affiliate, bringing the total raised during the program for Habitat affiliates to $51,726.

“We’ve helped raise more than one quarter of a million dollars since the inception of the Triple Threat Roadeo,” Jim Hasler, vice president of Case-New Holland noted at a World of Concrete 2012 press conference attended by Aggregates Manager, Better Roads and Equipment World editors.

The Triple Threat Roadeo began in 2007 when Case celebrated the 50th anniversary of its backhoe loader with a year-long Triple Threat Roadeo, Hasler said. Case continued the celebration in 2009 with its Rockin’ Block parties.

Miranda, Long and Lesher proved their skills during the Triple Threat Rodeo Championship operating a Case F Series wheel loader, N Series loader/backhoe and Alpha Series skid steer through a demanding course of challenges that simulated some of the most difficult applications facing equipment operators in their day-to-day jobs. They earned their place among the five finalists who competed in an extreme test of skills to win their ranks as champion, second- and third-place finishers.

“We congratulate Octavio Miranda for his victory in the Case Triple Threat Rodeo Championship,” said Rob Marringa, Case brand marketing manager. “And we applaud all of our competitors in demonstrating their professionalism and skill as worthy representatives of their trade.”

From a field of more than 1,500 participants who competed in Case Triple Threat Rodeo events across the United States and Canada this year, the winners of local rodeo events each qualified to compete at the championship event. The local winners also received $500 in cash and Case gear.

Scan concrete structures quickly and accurately to get large-area 2D or 3D images of what’s inside with Hilti’s PS 1000 X-Scan Radar Detection System.

Using a hand-guided scanner with color display, move the scanner horizontally and vertically across a measured template grid and analyze the scans immediately on the X-Scan display. With the aid of the PSA 100 field-rugged monitor, you can show objects in 3D images for on-the-spot interpretation, making it easy to find and mark potential drilling locations, limiting damage caused by hitting rebars, pipes or post-tension cables. Hilti says the device helps contractors do their own field scans, decreasing the need to hire specialists.

The five new compact-radius Cat E Series Mini Hydraulic Excavators — 303.5E CR, 304E CR, 305E CR, 305.5E CR and 308E CR SB — all use new engines that meet Stage IIIB /Tier 4 Interim emissions regulations and incorporate new features such as the Complete Operation, Maintenance, Performance, And Security System (COMPASS) control panel, standard high-ambient cooling package, more efficient auxiliary hydraulics, and redesigned control layout. Built into the COMPASS monitor are an anti-theft system, which requires a five-digit alphanumeric password to start the machine, and an Economy Mode feature (3.5- to 5.5-ton machines), which Cat says can potentially lower fuel use up to 20 percent by adjusting engine speed. An automatic engine-idle system drops engine rpm to idle after four seconds of inactivity.

A continuous-flow feature for auxiliary hydraulics, which maintains selected flow without operator intervention, is also available through COMPASS.

Additional refinements for the five E Series models include a standard high-ambient cooling package, electronic fuel-pump-priming system, a four-post canopy (3.5- to 5.5-ton machines), new ergonomic joysticks, and relocation of a number of controls such as the two-speed travel switch to the blade lever, secondary auxiliary hydraulic engagement to the left joystick, and manual pattern changer from the floor to the COMPASS monitor.

All new E Series machines use an end-damping system in both the boom and stick cylinders to reduce shock loads and to reduce material spillage. E Series sticks are thumb-ready, with brackets welded in place and relief valves already built into the main valve. The 308E CR SB will be available only in a swing boom configuration.

Case Construction rolled out at World of Concrete 2012 in Las Vegas upgrades to its Case N Series loader/backhoes including the application of cooled exhaust gas recirculation (CEGR) emissions-control technology to achieve Tier 4 Interim certification, as well as improvements in performance, productivity and maintainability.

Although a costly but required venture, the move to Tier 4 presents an opportunity for success with Case Construction, Hasler points out. The company is owned by Italian parent company, Fiat, which already has the technology and has invested in on-road trucks, he says.

“Make no mistake,” said Jim Hasler, vice president of Case-New Holland, at a press conference attended by Aggregates Manager, Better Roads and Equipment World, during World of Concrete 2012. “We are only ones going down the path of SCR and EGR, [but] we believe SCR will prevail.”

The Case 580N, 580 Super N, 580 Super N Wide Track and 590 Super N loader/backhoes now feature 3.4-liter, turbocharged engines, ranging from 78 horsepower in the 580N to 108 horsepower in the 590SN. The Tier 4 Interim-certified engine — with CEGR technology — burns cleaner while delivering superior horsepower, faster response and up to 4-percent better fuel efficiency under load.

Automatic Ride Control is now standard on Case N Series four-wheel-drive models. Ride Control, a technology Case says it pioneered for loader/backhoes, now automatically engages at “roading” speeds to help reduce bucket spillage. New optional features include a block heater for cold-weather starting, and a remote jump start with master disconnect switch.

.

The new machine, built specifically for barrier applications, features a U-shaped operator’s platform features vibration isolation and a high-capacity cooling package on the engine. The manufacturer’s proprietary G+ control system makes the machine capable of operating in multiple languages.

The 4400’s design concept was built around a left-side and right-side slipforming capable machine with symmetrical steering and minimal set-up changes for switching profiles from side-to-side. Its unique GOMACO U-shaped operator’s platform, with vibration isolation, puts the operator comfortably on top of the action. The U-shaped platform and side-to-side sliding control console accommodate right-side and left-side pour and provide a 360 degree view of the entire paving operation.

Caterpillar is extending its range of compact excavators, with the addition of three models with operating weights of 2,061 pounds, 3,340 pounds and 5,886 pounds. These additional models broaden the appeal of the Cat compact crawler excavator line-up, extending machine choices for customers in a variety of industry sectors.

Cat 300.9D takes Cat Into the Micro Market

The 300.9D weighs in at 2,061 pounds, making it the smallest machine in the Cat range. With an overall width of 28.7 inches, the machine is capable of driving through a standard doorway, providing easy access to the most confined job sites.

A water-cooled, three-cylinder diesel engine produces 18.4 horsepower; along with a twin gear pump hydraulic system creates a maximum stick breakout force of 1,011 pound-feet and a maximum bucket breakout force of 2,000 pound-feet. The machine comes equipped with an extending undercarriage and fold-out dozer blade, ensuring maximum stability and allowing a digging depth of up to 69.4 in (1,731mm) and a maximum excavation radius of 121.7 in (3,074mm).

A foldable overhead protective structure is mounted on the front of the machine, allowing the fitting of an additional guard to protect the operator when the machine is used with a hydraulic breaker. Caterpillar’s work tool division will be introducing a new H25 compact breaker specifically to work with this smaller machine. Auxiliary hydraulic lines with quick disconnect fittings are supplied as standard.

A spacious operator area with easy to use controls ensures the 300.9D will be a popular choice with operators of all abilities. The folding structure and operating weight well below 1 tonne, makes the 300.9D easy to transport on a trailer behind a van or truck, while a simple single steel engine cover provides easy access to all service and maintenance points.

301.4C boosts key rental sector

With an operating weight of 2,921 to 3,340 pounds, depending on specification, the Cat 301.4C fits into the line-up below the current 301.8C, extending choice in the popular 1.5 ton market. The machine is available with a choice of cab or FOPS/TOPS canopy, and with standard or extending width undercarriage.

Power comes from a 24 horsepower engine and the machine boasts a maximum bucket breakout force of 3,597 pound-feet and a stick force of 1,596 pound-feet. The machine has good working range with a maximum digging depth of 143.5 inches and reach at ground level extends to 145.7 inches. The maximum lift capacity to the front of the machine is 1,576 pounds. Lift capacity over the side of the machine is 739 pounds with the retracted 39 inches width tracks, rising to 1,091 pounds with the standard 51.2 inches extendable tracks.

Standard equipment includes extendable undercarriage, single and two-way auxiliary hydraulic lines, a sturdy dozer blade, a suspension seat and a hydraulic oil cooler. The machine will have a bucket linkage that allows the use of a wide range of existing Cat buckets, quick couplers and powered work tools.

302.7D CR joins growing compact radius line

Tipping the scales at 5,681 pounds with a canopy and 5,886 pounds with full cab, the 302.7D CR is the lightest Cat compact radius model, making it easy to transport for a rental company or contractor. Powered by the same proven 24 horsepower engine as the 301.4C, the machine boasts a load sensing hydraulic system, providing a maximum bucket force of 5,058 pound-feet and a maximum stick force of 3,462 pound-feet.

The Cat 302.7D CR combines a compact radius design (zero tailswing without counterweight) with a spacious operator environment and easy access to regular service points. Two-way auxiliary lines are standard, equipped with quick disconnects for rapid work tool changeover. A joystick-mounted proportional auxiliary control allows for fine control of a range of powered attachments. The dozer blade offers added stability when digging, and a float function on the dozer control allows operators to grade and push with confidence.

Maximum lift capacity is 2,105 pounds with the standard long arm and counterweight combination. When lifting over the side the extra counterweight allows a maximum lift capacity of 1,373 pounds at a reach of 98 inches and ground level.

Customers should contact their local Cat dealer or visit http://www.cat.com/equipment/hydraulic-excavators/mini-hydraulic-exavators for more information about the less-than-3-ton excavators.
